How do I find out what operating system I’m using?

Knowing your operating system (OS) is the first step to working out if you need an upgrade. On a Windows machine it only takes a moment. The quickest method is to press the Windows key + R, type winver, and press Enter.

A box will pop up telling you the version of Windows you’re running, for example Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Another way is to right-click on the Start menu, choose System, then scroll to Windows specifications where the version is listed. If you see Windows 10, your PC will no longer be supported after 14 October 2025, which means no security updates. While your device will still function, you’ll be left open to security risks, slower performance, and possible compliance problems.

At Edmondson’s we recommend checking this now rather than later, so you have time to plan your next steps.
