Why does my PC take so long to start up?

Slow start up times are very common, especially on older PCs, and there can be several causes. Most of the time it’s because too many applications are loading when Windows starts. Every program you see in the taskbar or notification area has a small effect on boot speed, and they can build up over time.

You can improve start up speed by removing unnecessary apps from the startup list. Windows also stores temporary files that build up over time, so clearing them can make a difference. If your computer still uses a traditional hard drive, switching to a solid state drive (SSD) can drastically reduce startup time, often from minutes to seconds.

If the delay is extremely long or you’re seeing error messages, there could be deeper issues such as corruption, ageing hardware or failing components. Edmondson’s can diagnose the root cause, recommend the right upgrades and get your machine booting reliably again.
